Stuck in a Moment?

“You got yourself stuck in a moment.  Now, you can’t get out of it.”

– Stuck in a Moment, by U2

I heard U2’s song recently for the first time in a couple of years.  And it got me thinking…

It happens to us all. Something happens in our life and we repeat it in our minds over and over again. So much so that it takes us out of this present moment.

So what are YOU stuck on in this moment?

What is the thing that’s been on your mind lately that you haven’t been able to shake?  We all have something, most of the time. The way our minds work is that they have to be busy thinking about something. Often, it’s not on something productive or useful, but rather some doubt, concern, or worry.  It’s usually some replay of something that’s happened in the past, or some concern about the future – all things that don’t truly serve you in this moment.

The thing is, you can’t THINK your way out of being stuck.
You can only DO something that gets you unstuck. The more you stay in one place pondering why you’re stuck, or asking yourself victim-like questions – like “why is this happening to me?” – then you may get an answer, but you’re still stuck!

I see it happen with clients all the time, like the person who is so attached to the story they’ve had for years about bad people in their life, that even though the situation has resolved itself, they keep meeting people with bad energy because they’re stuck in a feedback loop.  Or, the person who continually replays in their mind something they saw in the news to the point of making themselves sick, and can’t be in the present moment to take action and make a difference in the world.

So how do we break free?

While it involves thinking differently, it doesn’t START by thinking differently.  Because if it was easy to start thinking differently, then you would already be doing it.

And let’s be radically honest – by remaining stuck, it costs us something.  It costs us …awareness of what’s really going on.  It costs us…consciousness. It costs us… love that we could be sharing. It costs us…the view you could be seeing… the butterfly that you didn’t see flying right over your head…  the gaze of the potential partner that you missed because you were too much in your own mind.

What is needed is an intervention
of the energetic kind.

The reason why we can’t get out of the repetitive thoughts is because we’re still carrying around the energy of that past situation, or future worry.  It’s in our bodies. It’s in our tissues. It’s in our energetic field known as your “aura” or “electromagnetic field”.

The only way to truly break the pattern is to have it cleared from your energetic fieldfirst so that it doesn’t inform your thoughts. We need an intervention, something that’s new,  that’s different to come in and shock the system.  Or to “zap” you, as my mom would say.

Once your field is clear, you can return to your heart space, and once again open to LOVE.

“I was unconscious, half asleep.
The water was warm ’til you discover how deep”
– from Stuck in a Moment by U2

So maybe we’re all a little half asleep from time to time.  Yet we can change that in a single moment.  I guess that’s what the song is about.  It’s just sometimes hard to change on your own – sometimes we all need a little support.

One of the greatest gifts that Eden and I possess as Shamanic practitioners is being able to clear away the energy of the past so that people can get out of the vicious feedback loops of the things that have happened to them.

So come check our upcoming free webinar where we’ll be presenting some ideas to let the past go in addition to leading an energetic experience.

I hope you’ll join us.
